The Artist
Moon Singer has been designing and fabricating jewelry since 1994. Her work values clean and simple lines, yet her modern design approach results in pieces that are both bold and unique in style and craftsmanship. Moon’s use of accents such as semi-precious stones, feathers and wood, combined with silver, gold and other precious metals, make each handcrafted piece stand out and get noticed.
As the daughter of a professional photographer and a painter, Moon was exposed to the arts at an early age in Montreal and later through her early adult years in Vancouver, British Columbia. Moon became interested in designing jewelry by chance while working as the Art Specialist at a summer camp in Alberta. The camp brought in local Jeweler, Sara Carnat, to do a workshop with teens, and Moon was trained to help her teach. “It felt so natural as soon as I picked up the torch and started to solder. I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest my life.”
Starting with a few night classes, Moon later enrolled in a 2-year, full-time Jewelry Art and Design program. After graduating in 1999, two of her Judaica pieces were personally selected by the curator of the Canadian Craft Museum in Vancouver and included in the Museum’s Silver Show in the Fall of 1999. After relocating to California, Moon focused on custom orders and began designing for the Canadian Jewelry Company, Tashi. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, with an Emphasis on Sculpture and Metal, from San Francisco State University, graduating summa cum laude.
In 2004, Moon took some time off to start a family. Two kids and four years later, the artist is back in business. She recently opened a studio/retail shop in San Carlos, California. It is advised you call in advance. (650) 267-0476
